How I Work.

Transcreation agencies don't do strategy. Strategy consultants don't produce. I do both — because the space between insight and execution is where good ideas go to die.

Two Disciplines
二つの専門分野
01
Strategy & Market Entry

Strategy isn't a phase.
It's the foundation the whole project stands on.

Diagnostic-first strategy for brands entering, expanding in, or competing within the Japanese market. Grounded in the Tokonoma Process — a proprietary framework pattern-tested across real market entries.

Japan Market Entry Sprint
A structured diagnostic sprint that maps cultural friction, identifies positioning opportunities, and delivers an actionable entry strategy. Typically 4–6 weeks.
Tokonoma Process Diagnostic
The full diagnostic framework applied to your brand's Japan positioning. Competitive landscape, consumer context, cultural fit assessment, and strategic recommendations.
Brand Strategy & Positioning
Refining or rebuilding brand positioning for the Japanese market. Not translation — strategic repositioning grounded in local consumer insight.
Competitive & Cultural Analysis
Deep market intelligence. How competitors behave in Japan, where white space exists, and what cultural dynamics shape category perception.
Who this is for
CMOs, Heads of International, Brand Directors entering or expanding in Japan.
02
Transcreation & Production

Where strategy becomes
something real.

From campaign adaptation to full creative production — the execution side of the practice. Every piece of work is informed by the strategic thinking on the left page. That's what makes it different.

Campaign Transcreation
Rebuilding global campaigns for the Japanese market. Not word-for-word translation — conceptual adaptation that preserves intent while earning cultural precision.
Content Transcreation
Adapting content franchises, editorial series, and brand storytelling for Japanese audiences. Tone, pacing, visual language, format — all rebuilt from the culture up.
Creative Production
End-to-end production for campaigns, events, and content. Video, live, digital — with the cultural context built into the production process, not bolted on afterward.
Event & Experience Production
Producing live and hybrid experiences for the Japanese market. From intimate brand activations to large-scale showcases — managed with the precision Japan expects.
Who this is for
Creative Directors, Production Leads, Marketing Managers who need execution grounded in cultural strategy.

Every engagement starts with strategy and ends with something you can ship.

The practice operates across two integrated disciplines. Strategy informs production. Production pressure-tests strategy. Neither exists in isolation.

Identify where the brand's current positioning creates cultural friction. What works globally that breaks locally — and why.

03
Transcreation
Rebuild the strategic and creative framework from the culture up. Not adaptation — reconstruction. New positioning, new creative territory, same brand truth.

Production
Execute with the precision Japan demands. Strategy becomes deliverables — campaigns, content, experiences — built to the standard the market expects.

Frequently Asked
Do I need strategy, or can I just hire you for production?
I’ll be honest — production without cultural strategy is the most common reason campaigns miss in Japan. Even a light diagnostic changes the outcome. I'll always recommend starting with at least a diagnostic — even a light one — so the production work is grounded in context rather than assumption.
What's a typical timeline for a Market Entry Sprint?
Four to six weeks from kickoff to final deliverable. The first two weeks are diagnostic and research. Weeks three and four are strategic development. Final week is presentation and roadmap delivery. I keep the process tight because speed matters in market entry.
Do you work with agencies or directly with brands?
Both. I work directly with brands as a strategic and production partner, and I also work with agencies as a Japan market specialist — providing the cultural strategy layer that most global agencies don't have in-house.
What makes this different from a translation agency?
Translation agencies convert words. Transcreation rebuilds ideas. The difference is strategic: I start from consumer insight and cultural context, not from the source language document. The output looks different because the input is different.
Can you handle production outside of Japan?
Yes. My production background spans North America, Europe, and Asia. Japan is the strategic specialization, but the production capability is global. Most engagements involve coordinating across markets anyway.
